The Dock Museum in Barrow has been successful in its bid for National Lottery Heritage Funds. £816,700 has been granted for a project entitled Shipyard Town.

The project will focus on the rich heritage of Barrow’s main industry from the 1950s to the present day, as well as looking to the future.

The total project costs were just under £1 million and match funding are now in place from BAE Systems, the Sir John Fisher Foundation and the Furness Maritime Trust.

The build will take 2 years and will include the creation of a new permanent shipbuilding gallery, and the building of a research room, along with upgrading of the Museum’s entrance and the introduction of a fun family-friendly ‘Squeeze in the Sub’ learning zone.
